good stock.

there's only so many times i can beg for your forgiveness for slacking on this blog. i'll put it simply: things have been crazy-busy over here in the middle of my life.

one of my projects:
i've been busy collecting recipes and photographs of my cute little italian grandmother for a cook book i've dreamed up as a pretty incredible christmas present. i've been collaborating with the incredibly talented, seattle-based kim screen of good stock, and i want to share with my friends how amazing she is.... :)

but first: this project means a lot to me for many reasons. one of the most poignant motivations for me to create this book is actually spurred from a life-altering incident where my grandpa suddenly became ill and was given a 1% chance of living. despite the unfavorable odds, he is alive, six years later. and while i've never experienced the devasting loss of someone integral to my heart and life the way some of my friends have, this incident has forever changed the way i view and appreciate my family. i am no longer careless with those relationships, instead i cherish them infinitely. my gram means a lot to me, and has been endlessly generous to all of her grandchildren growing up. she's a strong and feisty woman, someone i've gotten to know so much better throughout the process of making this book. this is the first year i have felt that i could find a way to thank her, and appreciate her life and legacy of fun, and amazing food. i want her to know how much she's loved and appreciated while we are still able to tell her. with so much tragedy in the world every day, these are the moments to take advantage of. i love my family so much, and am so proud to be from, well, as kim screen calls it, "good stock."

part of the reason i chose to work with kim is that i remember hearing her books were absolutely impeccably made and the pictures on her website would simply speak to that. i feel like i've especially hit the jackpot with my timing. it seems like kim and good stock are getting AMAZING press right now, and i'm proud to be before the tidal wave of admirers that are sure to be working with her soon.

coveiter has a really great interview with kim...
junebug (whom i love/stalk) did a post on her a couple days ago...
shoot... even DAILY CANDY (yep, THE daily candy) loves kim screen!
and lastly... she was just featured in REAL SIMPLE!!!!!!!

these are a couple of kim's newest additions, her accordian books! i'm in awe of her already, and you should be too! send some love! :)

I love that you are close with your grandma. I wish I had that relationship with mine.
Hold her close to your heart, as I am sure you already do :)
Take care!

oh my goodness, and the final result is even more amazing! Ali brought it when she visited right before Christmas, and it is one of the most beautiful books I have ever seen. I will tell her that she needs to post pictures of it.
